As I look back on the last year, my first as SFAA president, I must say that this role has been more fulfilling than I had anticipated. I learned a lot about the legislative and political process on both the local and state level, and I’m looking forward to the challenges that will come in the new year.

2011 was very good year for the rental housing  industry and it will be hard to beat. Legislatively we got some good things done and  our candidates  fared well in lcoal elections. Collaborating with city leadership and other nonprofit organizations is one of SFAA’s most important functions.

Green is red hot these days as we collectively become more environmentally conscious in the way we live. Our fiscal spending habits and choices reflect a gradual change of values toward a healthier future of the planet.

As I write this column for the first time as the new SF Apartment Association board president, a look back at 2010 seems to be in order. The changing of the calendar gives us much to be thankful for this year.
